Halloween
I'm afraid this is going to be a pretty uninspired post, as I haven't taken any pictures of interest the last couple of days. Instead I've put a picture of myself in warmer, less rainy times (so to speak).
The past three days have been fun.
Thursday morning was definitely an 'alternative' class day. My Computer Science 420 class met in The Barge so that we could discuss term project topics. It looks like I will be doing a project on Garbage Collection (the programming language kind). My German class on Thursday took place in the form of a chat. Unfortunately, the Black Board chat applet proved to be extremely unreliable, so most of the class consisted of people explaining they were having issues connecting.
I have absolutely no clue how I did on my Economics exam on Thursday, much like last time. Let's hope the actual result is 'much like last time' as well.
Thursday night brought ominous news: my Relaxation and Wellness class has been cancelled due to lack of interest. That's actually pretty ironic considering how busy I'm going to be the rest of this semester. Now I'm going to have to shop around and see if there's another Physical Education class I can get into.
Friday was pretty slow. I handed in my CYK assignment, so let's hope that turned out well. I tutored a completely empty lab on Friday afternoon. I'm guessing everyone was getting ready for Halloween. On top of that a lot of the COSC 100s had a project due earlier that week, so they probably decided to give computer science a break for a bit. Later that evening, Kaleena had her senior picture taken by our school's yearbook photographer -- another great item in the 'stuff that I will be doing a year from now' list.
On Saturday Kaleena and I went to Pizza Hut for brunch. So far so good. After that we went to see The Grudge, which turned out not to be such a great idea. As far as thrillers/horror movies go, I thought it was pretty scary. Kaleena seemed less impressed, but then again she was smart enough to just not look when people got brutally murdered in the movie.
Last night was not that exciting (although I was a little jumpy nevertheless...), except for a fire drill. Fortunately I was close to the exit, so no hearing damage this time around. The main casualties were six muffins that Kaleena was baking, because I turned off the oven on my way out (while the muffins were halfway done).
Speaking of turning the oven off: the 84 Broad St. kitchen has been locked as of this morning, because someone neglected to turn off the oven after they were done with it. (Aside from that, the kitchen is a health hazard anyway, since Buildings and Grounds still hasn't fixed our food processor.) More news on this as the story unfolds...
Sunday hasn't been particularly eventful. Despite the fact that we turned the clocks back, I feel slightly groggy. My head feels slightly stuffy, which may be due to the smoke from last night (or just the humidity, which is pretty high at the moment). My main concern is currently my Computer Science 420 exam this Tuesday. This is the first exam for this course, so I hope I've been paying enough attention this semester.
That's all for now... Cheers.
Arjo:
Too bad, no Halloween pictures, I hoped you would have some nice ones of those, since mentionning Halloween to people here just raises questions what that 3rd syllable means you added to your greeting.
If you're looking for inspiration, perhaps the new species in 84 Broad's kitchen are photogenic enough? Might even be scary
I'm currently summarizing a meeting we had about standardizing our aproach when developing .NET solutions. This particular session was about authorisation models.. I swear everything I wrote down Oct 12th made perfect sense to me back then!
Btw, we actually got customer's approval on the project I mentionned earlier, and I'm even rather pleased with the result
I instantly took 2 days off resulting in a nice 4 day weekend. Allas, the end of day 4 is near..
Ok let me finish this summary now and get it over with :p

Good to see you're doing pretty well yourself. I like this weblog, nice way to stay up to date on how you're behaving on the other side of the big ole Atlantic, which by the way I do intend to cross in 2005 if cashflow allows it

It has been an extremely busy day today. From the 8,5 hours I worked today I spent maybe 2 hours at the office. Went to Rotterdam today to meet colleagues from the cities surrounding Rotterdam. I don't know what it is called in English but here it is called 'intervisie'. A meeting where one of the workers tells about a problem at work and the problem of one becomes the learning experience of many other workers. After being there the whole morning I went back to the office to grab my things and go to one of the primary schools here. Talking about problems concerning children in the school. When I got back I had exactly one hour left to prepare cases for the rest of the week. A busy day, but with no visible proof of your work. Sometimes that gives me the feeling I should enter the world of comerce where you can see results almost instantly.
I think I will pass on 'The Grudge'. I am not a so-called 'Horror-hero'. I like thrillers, but I still can have nightmares from movies I saw when I was in highschool (Like 'Silver Bullet', based one of Stephen King's books).
Tomorrow and Wednesday I have to get to work by train, bus and subway. Luckily that is only for two days.
Oh, by the way, Pieter... Manon de Rooij gave birth to a son 'Thomas' this night at 1 'o clock.
Well, now I am going to prepare for ballet with Heesoo. Talk to you all later!.

I am still feeling pretty off about the fact that someone shot Theo van Gogh. The weird thing is that not even 2 months ago I was at the filmset of 0605 talking to him. That was one of the last days they were filming. Everyone is afraid that this will either mean that people will become afraid of expressing their opinion or that racism will grow quickly.
I just read that John Kerry excepted that George Bush has won the elections. That makes me think about the elections 4 years ago where Al Gore did the same thing (if I remember correctly) and afterwards it turned out that AL Gore got more votes (again if I remember correctly). Most of the time I am happy that we do not have the same system. But on the other hand, no system is perfect.
Well, ballerinatime... talk to you later

inspired by kim sista — #24 Actually Al Gore didn't win, AFAI remember. He just had the popular vote (> 50%), but if you don't win the right states that doesn't get you anything.
What Kerry is doing is not putting the US through another ordeal by contesting the results.
