Still Here?
OK short summary of the last 3.5 weeks:
- February 16th: blow up computer and nearly set off fire alarm.
- February 19th: Winterfest Olympics. (Kick 4ss and get a *cool* color t-shirt for once!)
- February 26th: buy motherboard, RAM, transplant processor and fix computer. Receive SimCity 4 Deluxe from Kaleena.
- February 27th and 28th: Play SimCity 4 while occasionally pondering how great it would be to do laundry or clean my room. Under no circumstance get any kind of work done.
I'm pretty sure I did other things as well these past few weeks. My computer obviously wasn't in very good shape after I fried it (note the charred areas in/on the memory bay). I got some help from someone here at Colgate who helped confirm that motherboard was, in fact, shot. After debating just getting a new desktop (or laptop even) I eventually just got a new motherboard and a 512MB DIMM for a grand total of $175. I actually got all of that at CompUSA in Syracuse, as in... retail. I got to take the box to the cash register and wave my credit card at it. I'm just pointing this out because most of the non-essentials I buy nowadays are actually online.
Another 'notable fact' pertaining to these past weeks is thatnothing happened in the Book Exchange department. Enough said. I got funding for my St. Petersburg trip, and I'm currently trying to get a Visa for said trip. It'd be nice if that got done soon so I can actually buy the plane ticket.

Welcome back, Pieterson!

Glad to have you back LoL. So, don't blow up your computer again m'kay!
Life around here:
Last Saturday the Korean New Schoolyear started and there was a Korean graduation ceremony in ROtterdam. All the classes had to perform and the Korean Ambassador of the Netherlands made an appearance (at least his deputy did). The performances were quite funny. Most of the groups existed of bilingual Korean children who sang and played an instrument. Our group mainly exists of typical Dutch people. So there were 8 white people singing a Korean childrens song to a whole basketballfield filled with Koreans. But they were very enthousiastic.
Later that day KJ and I went to Amsterdam. I had to audition for the lead in a commercial and the rest of the night we spent with AJ-san. We went to a restaurant where the boss actually drank some wine at the table with some customers. I have not heard anything about my audition so I figured someone else got the part.
Besides that I am working, working and I sport a lot. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I take 1,5 hrs balletclasses and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I am going to the gym for a cardioworkout. Besides the fact that I am starting to actually get quite a good condition (is that the right word?) I am losing the weight I wanted to lose (about 6 kilos/ 12 pounds so far).
Anyway. Hope you and Kaleena are enjoying!
Love ya both. Talk to you tonight.

St. Petersburg == not much to say yet; I am still in the process of getting my Russian Visa. It looks like I'll have to FedEx my passport to the Russian Consulate in NYC at some point, when I *finally* get my insurance certs (latest word is that they're being sent to Heerjansdam, NL, which is not terribly useful).
reply to this commentArjo Hooimeijer:
Here's some news from Amsterdam..
Snow:
You won't believe how much snow fell here today (for dutch standards anyway.) Specially the northern regions (Amsterdam included) got covered in a vast amount of snow.
I just drove home after a meeting, my average speed was 26km/h.
Too bad I didn't have my camera with me, I'll bring it tomorrow and supply some nice shots. Tomorrow's going to be just as bad.. Wonder if I'll ever be able to get out of that pile of snow I just parked my car in
Housing:
I'll just buy one or two cheap matresses (in contrast to the final ones which are ****ing expensive,) so that people staying over won't have to sleep on the couch.
I found a nice place to live in the city of Haarlem. It's about the same distance from work as where I live now (20km.) It's a house in a nice and quiet neighborhood in the North-West, right next to Bloemendaal and about 6km from the beach.
The entire top (2nd) floor is mine, right under the flat roof so that'll be nice and warm in the summer.
I have a decent bedroom, a pretty big living, a semi-open kitchen and a recently installed bathroom. The best part (apart from the walking distance to the beach) is the big balcony facing south, where the sun will shine from noon til dusk.
I hope to be moving my stuff there this or next weekend, with the help of dad who offered to drive the Mercedes truck from work for me. Isn't he sweet
Only minor issue is my newly bought bed, which won't arrive before the end of April
Work:
Busier than ever, my personal overtime record is broken almost every other week. I made 24 hours of overtime in February, of which I hope to compensate a few in March since at the end of the quarter all hours minus 40 will be paid. That's not actually a bad thing, but the taxes..
That's it for now

My Korean hasn't progressed much this semester, so I might have to fold with regard to that bet I made with Patrick
Nevertheless, I am still the proud owner of a Korean-English-Korean dictionary (thanks to Kaleena), so when I have some more time I should be able to make some progress...
In the meantime, I'm learning some interesting Russian phrases thanks to my phrasebook (again thanks to Kaleena)
With regard to housing I am pretty much screwed (lottery number 704/730ish), but I'm looking into living with a bunch of my friends in the new Asia Interest house (the house I'm currently living in is commonly referred to as the old Asia Interest house). It sounds like it should be a lot of fun there next year, so it'd be nice if that worked out.
Look at all the parallels
Oh and it snows a lot here, too!
*gasp*

Goodmorning everyone. Still pretty cold here (on the news they said last night temperatures dropped to -15/ -17. Today another snowfont will bring another 10 - 20 cm of snow. Typical Dutch weather? I don's think so. We made some nice pictures too! SInce I have no idea how to put them on the internet... Oh and Joerie doesn't like snow... LOL.
When it comes to working and studying... KJ is still searching for another job. He sends about 3 applications a week. Besides that he started a computercourse (European Computer Driving License).
I will start the course 'Buitengewoon Opsporingsambtenaar' soon. I don't knwo how to translate that one, but it means I will be able to give students who skip school a fine. It appears to be quite a difficult exam.
Tomorrow evening we will go out to dinner with the Korean students in The Hague. There is a nice Korean restaurant over there. We will take you there when you visit home in the next year. Do you have any plans on that subject?
reply to this commentHooimama:
Take care, the two of you, it's terribly cold out there!
reply to this commentOver here Autumn 's back again.

Sista Kim:
Today was one of those days...
Done a lot of 'has to be in the mail yesterday' or 'could you please do this for me because I don't have time' things today. No problem, because I like to help others out at work. The only problem is I did not get any of my own work done today. This afternoon I had a meeting in Rotterdam. So at the end of the day I felt like I had done nothing productive. I know that is beyond the truth, but still.
Tomorrow KJ and I are getting al of AJ-sans boxes from the attic. Saturdaymorning dad and AJ will pick up everything. Since I will be in Korean class I won't be able to help on Saturday, so we have to start tomorrow. I am very curious about AJ's house. AJ-san, I will try and visit as soon as possible.
Other than work I have not done a lot this week (apart from ballet). I skipped cardio training because I have been very tired and went to bed at 22.00 yesterday and the day before. Not with any result because I couldn't sleep LoL.
Well, take care tty soon!

inspired by Pieter Hooimeijer — #12 You're right little brother. Today I went to Korean class. The new Korean school year has started. We were just with four people today. A few students were abroad (for work or holidays). A few have given up. Too bad, because it was a nice group. Today we talked with sonsengnim (teacher) about his study. He is a medstundent (is that correct English?) and he will probably specialise in psychiatry.
) groceries. Dad, AJ-san, Martijn and KJ-san have been moving AJ-sans furniture to Haarlem. So our place is echoing now (especially the attick). I think they were here at 8.15 or so. As I told you before KJ and I already got everything down from the attick, so our living room was full of boxes and AJ's music equipment.

In the afternoon mom and I did some necessary (???
Next week will be an easy week. I have to work from Monday untill Wednesday. Thursday, Friday and the next Monday I took some time off. On Saturday we will celebrate our first wedding aniversary
Tomorrow we will visit grandmom in the morning. We will have dinner with mom and dad. Hope to talk to you then!
Kaleena, how are you doing? I have not talked to you in a long time. Hope you are doing okay. You will soon be celebrating your graduation!
Bye bye y'all!
