Bonnes Voyages
Cities I've spent significant amounts of time in, starting at Spring Break:
- Wherever Bridget lives (I'll call it 'New Jersey Suburbs')
- Newark NJ
- Amsterdam NL
- The Hague NL
- Rotterdam NL
- Heerjansdam NL
- Birmingham UK
- Syracuse NY
- Oneida NY
- Cleveland OH
- Mayfield Village OH
- Detroit MI
- Amsterdam NL (again)
- St. Petersburg RU
- Paris FR
Not a bad score
I don't really have time to go through all of the last two months, so here's the Spark Notes version: Went home together with Kaleena for Spring Break (March 12th - 19th). Stopped by Bridget's house and stayed there before flying to Amsterdam. Had a lot of fun in The Netherlands; Kaleena interviewed Monsieur Krommenhoek @ my old high school and we managed to pick up a Russian visa at the consulate The Hague.
We got back to a much warmer Colgate--the snow was actually melting! Plowed through a lot of schoolwork for a couple of weeks and got invited for an interview at Progressive the day *after* I bought my plane tickets to Russia. Got accepted for a research assistantship this summer with Professor Ohsumi. Traveled to Progressive in Cleveland on April 7th and interviewed there that evening and on Friday morning.
Got dropped off at the airport, changed, and traveled to Amsterdam a few hours ahead of my planned itinerary. Burned those hours by meeting up with AJ for some breakfast at Schiphol Airport (thanks for breakfast/getting up at 7am on a Saturday
). Then got back in a plane to St. Petersburg (Pulkovo Airport), where I was met by Oxana. Gave a very broad presentation of my Oak Associates stuff and walked around the city to see the sights. Time flies when you're not in class
My trip back to Colgate was a hazard. Took me 3 hours (mostly walking) to get from one gate to another in Paris De Gaulle (Air France employee literally sent me to the wrong side of the airport). Finally arrived in Detroit with slightly elevated blood pressure. Picked up by Kaleena in Syracuse after approximately 24 hours of travel; was in class 9 hours later. Here are some pictures ![]()

Also, you look much too gleeful next to the terrorist attack sign. And I'm thinking of presenting PBS with a new television show: "Where In the World is Pieter Hooimeijer?"

Awesome pictures! Your posture has an arguably uncanny resemblance to the person in the painting behind you (in the picture of you by the podium and the neat blue flag)

pieter your site is absolutely superfabulous eventho i can't post pictures here or listen to music or play movies or initiate chat etc. it's sophisticated n looks so professional well done.

inspired by Bridget — #2 Don't you ever forget that "Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?" was a computer game by Broderbund Software BEFORE its PBS game show adaptation. I have to keep the record straight on that one.
But look at the picture of me! I look so huggable and cuddly!
I look at the pictures of St. Petersburg and all I can think of is the tank chase scene from the James Bond movie "GoldenEye"... Is that bad?
And one more thing... Pieter didn't stop by my house in Harrington Park... shame, shame, shame! You have to come back and visit next time, okay?

I am sorry I forgot to give you a wake up call. It is now 16.23 here and I realised I forgot something. My excuse is that I have been studying since 9 o' clock this morning. I tried to call you on Kaleena's cellphone and on your own phone but nobody answered. IN an hour or so KJ and I wil go to KJ's parents to have dinner. We will be home at 21.30 I guess. So feel free to call!

You're welcome, a pleasure getting up and driving down a desterted A5 for you. Somehow those planes taking over (or should I say off) on both sides are a nice motivation to drive a little faster there
I almost got a picture of you going through customs.. too bad that uniformed dude didn't share my artistic view on xray machine architecture O
You sure have seen a nice piece of the world the last few months, nice job on the pictures.
Good luck preparing for your finals!

Hey, Pieterson, there's this very huggable and cuddly person at one of your pictures that doesn't understand that you are using the metric system for the weather because otherwise your mom doesn't understand!

HI little brother. I think I did well on my exam today. The first part existed of 50 multiple choice questions. At least 30 questions had to be answered correctly. So I thought that should be a piece of cake. But the exam was actually quite hard. But I still managed to answer 43 or 42 (not absolutely sure) correctly.
reply to this commentIn the afternoon we had to write a proces-verbaal... I am truly sorry but I don't know the English words for it at this moment and I don't feel like looking it up. I think that went well too, but there are lots of tiny mistakes that can make you fail. Now I have to wait for 8 weeks for the results.
I will call you tomorrow because I am going to bed early... no energy left and a huge stomach ache. ttyl!

I saw a Colgate Bookstore "Cash for your Books" poster the other day, Pieter. When does the competition begin?
